WhatsApp Backup Stuck on Android? Find All Solutions Here

My automatic WhatsApp backup has been getting stuck at 99%. I’ve set up the backup to happen automatically every day and for the last 5 days; Google Drive has failed to complete the backup process. I have tried everything including restarting the device and switching Wi-Fi networks but nothing works. Does anyone know how I can fix this issue?”

We recently received this question from one of our users who was frustrated at a WhatsApp Google Drive backup that keeps failing. While this problem may not be very common, it can happen and when it does, most people worry that they may never be able to back up their data. In this article, we address this issue and provide you with workable solutions that may be helpful.
1. Suggestions from WhatsApp

WhatsApp seems to think that there could be a problem with the way that you have configured your Google Drive account. They suggest checking the following if you are unable to back up your WhatsApp chats to Google Drive;

Check that you have a Google account added to your phone and that the Google account is activated.

You must also verify that Google Play services is installed on your device and that it is up to date. Please note that Google Play services is only available on Android 2.3.4 or higher so if your device is running anything lower, you may need to update it first.

Also, this may be a connectivity issue. So, if you are trying to back up over a cellular network, ensure that you have sufficient data to support both Google Play Services and WhatsApp. You can also try to back up on a different network.

Option #1. Force Stop WhatsApp

Try force stopping WhatsApp. To do this on your Android device, tap on Settings > Apps > Open the Apps List > Select WhatsApp and then tap on “Force Stop”. Now open WhatsApp again and then attempt the backup.

Option #2. Switch to WhatsApp Beta

You can also choose to switch to the WhatsApp Beta option that will provide you with a much more updated version of WhatsApp that you can use to create the backup. But most Beta testing versions of any app can be unstable and may cause more problems.
